What is crawford clan?

The Crawford Clan is a Scottish Highland Clan that is considered a sept of Clan Lindsay. The family claims descent from a certain Ranald, who is said to have lived in the 13th century. The Clan's origins are obscure, with some sources suggesting they may have originally been members of the Clan Atholl or Clan Mackintosh.

The Crawford Clan gained prominence in the 14th century under the leadership of Sir Reginald Crawford, who was one of Robert the Bruce's most trusted advisors and fought alongside him at the Battle of Bannockburn. Crawford Castle was the stronghold of the Crawford Clan for many years but was eventually abandoned and fell into ruin.

The motto of the Crawford Clan is "Tutum te robore reddam", which translates to "I will make thee safe by strength". The crest features a stag, which is a common Scottish symbol, and also features a galley, which is believed to represent the Clan's seafaring past.

Today, the Crawford Clan is still recognized as a Scottish Clan, with many members living both in Scotland and around the world. The Clan is active in maintaining their history and traditions, and there are annual Clan gatherings held in Scotland.
